Case study: Charlton College

Established in 1998, Charlton College is an independent Christian School that provides education for kinder to year 12 students in Lake Macquarie, NSW.

The school purchased 50 desktops and 20 laptops through the Connect IT program to increase its IT capability.

Personal computer (PC) users are predominantly primary students who do not require new computers and children with learning difficulties who need personal attention. Teachers mostly use the laptops to help them improve their IT skills.

The school's business manager, John Kroon, sees great value in purchasing refurbished rather than new IT equipment. “Pricing is the major consideration – tapping into quality refurbished PCs has assisted us as a young and growing school, allowing us to utilise funds in a way that helps us develop all areas," he said.

“The school has increased its IT capability in a way that suited the needs of the students and fitted within our budgetary constraints. It also better equipped staff to do their jobs."
