Mission
WorkVentures exists to be a catalyst for social
change by undertaking initiatives to empower
disadvantaged people to build positive futures.
Our activities are guided by Christian values and
behaviour.
What do we do?
WorkVentures
is a non-profit company (limited by guarantee)
operating as a social enterprise, dedicated to building a just, creative and
sustainable society. Unemployed and disadvantaged
people are our priority. Founded by members of a
Christian parish in 1979 (incorporated in 1984), we
have a diverse workforce and client base, an
inclusive ethos and non-discriminatory policies. Our
services are conducted in partnership with
commercial, community and government organisations.
The work we do focuses on these five important
areas:
· Narrowing the digital divide
that exists in disadvantaged and isolated
communities through our computer refurbishment
program, connect (technology) centres and IT
training programs.
· Creating pathways and opportunities for employment
through Traineeships and our
technology repair services.
· Supporting individuals and communities
to build sustainable small enterprises through our
Local Enterprise Centre.
·
Encouraging individuals back into learning
through life style and educational programs we
facilitate in several strategically located
WorkVentures Connect Centres.
·
Working with indigenous people and communities
to identify and facilitate sustainable solutions to
long-term issues, and to be an agent for change and
progress in their communities.
Our main activities are employment, training,
community development, electronic repairs, and
computer refurbishment. We employ approximately
200
people at eight sites in Sydney and one in
Melbourne. Our annual turnover is approximately $20
million.
As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO),
WorkVentures offers accredited training. We also
provide informal introductory training that starts
disadvantaged people on their journey to more formal
development. We develop and deliver tailored
training courses to increase jobseekers’ skills and
opportunities for employment.
WorkVentures’
Group Training Organisation (GTO)
assists people entering or re-entering the workforce
by helping them access and maintain traineeships.
Our Connect Centres offer services direct to
disadvantaged people, including free legal advice,
budgeting training, small business start-up advice
and mentoring, general employment assistance, youth
employment assistance, and accredited and informal
computer and software training.
The Connect Centres at Airds, Claymore, Macquarie
Fields, Waterloo and Woolloomooloo work closely with
the local community to identify needs and deliver
relevant services.
